Dynamic posture is how you hold yourself when you are moving.

Static posture is how you hold yourself when you are not moving.

How can posture affect my health?

Poor posture can be bad for your health. Slouching or slumping over can:

  • Misalign your muscles and bones
  • Wear away at your spine, making it more fragile and prone to injury
  • Cause neck, shoulder, and back pain 
  • Decrease your flexibility
  • Affect how well your joints move
  • Affect your balance and increase your risk of falling
  • Make it harder to digest your food
  • Make it harder to breathe

How can I improve my posture in general?

  • Be mindful of your posture 
  • Stay active
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes. 
  • Make sure work surfaces are at a comfortable height

How can I improve my posture when sitting?

Sit properly, and to take frequent breaks:

  • Switch sitting positions often
  • Take brief walks at home or work
  • Gently stretch your muscles once and hour 
  • Don't cross your legs
  • Make sure that your feet touch the floor or use a foot rest 
  • Relax your shoulders
  • Keep your elbows in close to your body. 
  • Make sure that your back is fully supported with a pillow or back rest
  • Make sure that your thighs and hips are supported with padding

How can I improve my posture when standing?

With practice, you can improve your posture; you will look and feel better. 

  • Stand up straight and tall
  • Keep your shoulders back
  • Pull your stomach in
  • Put your weight mostly on the balls of your feet
  • Keep your head level
  • Let your arms hang down naturally at your sides
  • Keep your feet about shoulder-width apart


SIDE EFFECTS of POOR POSTURE: 

1. Organs could switch sides

2. Increases the risks of death and disease

3. Poor Circulation/Lymphatic systems flow, cuts off your circulation, and poor blood flow creates poor sexual function. 

4. Headaches, Migraines, Decreased concentration, 

5. Constipation and digestive problems

6. Deepened anxiety and depression

7. Hinders proper functioning of internal organs

8. Pain:  Neck, back, shoulders, knees, TMJ, neck muscles, hip pain, knee pain, ankle pain, pelvic pain, increase in arthritis or arthritic pain,  increased stress on the knees, decreases flexibility, 

9. Brain/Central Nervous System side effects: Decreases concentration, memory and brain function ability, poor moods, fatigue, distracted easily, lower self esteem,   increased physical and emotional stress,  career problems,  sleep problems, affects your balance and increases your risk of falling AND MORE!

10 .Excess weight put on muscles and joints causing pain, breathing problems, distortion of spine and joints, and effects range of motion increasing pain/discomfort, makes you look heavier.
